Mac Repairs in Ramsgate: MacBook & iMac Service Without Flying to JHB

Apple service centres are clustered in Johannesburg and Cape Town. That leaves most of the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast with one option: box the machine up, send it inland, and wait. We do Mac work here in Ramsgate, so the machine stays in the province and you can talk to the person actually repairing it.

What we repair

  • MacBook battery replacement, including Apple Silicon models
  • Keyboard and trackpad swaps
  • Liquid damage assessment and board-level repair
  • SSD upgrades on models that still allow them
  • iMac display, fan and power supply replacement
  • macOS reinstall, recovery and data migration
  • Charging port and connector repair, including fine soldering

What the symptoms usually mean

Macs fail in fairly predictable ways. None of this replaces a proper diagnosis, but it will tell you roughly what you are dealing with.

  • Nothing at all when you press power. Often the charger or the charging circuit rather than the machine being dead. Worth trying a different known-good charger before you panic.
  • “Service Recommended” on the battery. The battery has reached the end of its cycle life. It still works, but it holds less and less, and a swollen battery can press on the trackpad until it stops clicking properly.
  • Restarts by itself, or a black screen with a restart warning. That is a kernel panic. Sometimes software, sometimes failing hardware, and the logs usually say which.
  • Fans loud and constant. Normally dust and dried thermal paste. Left alone, sustained heat is what eventually kills components that were otherwise fine.
  • Flickering or lines on the display. Could be the panel, the cable, or the graphics side. On some MacBook models the display cable wears where it folds, which is a much smaller job than a whole screen.
  • Spilled something. Power it off immediately and do not try to dry it out and switch it on to see. Corrosion continues after the liquid is gone, and running current through it is what turns a repairable board into a dead one.

Apple Silicon: where we stop

Some Apple Silicon repairs need Apple’s own calibration tools, which only authorised service providers have. We are straight about that: if a repair requires an Apple-only tool, we tell you before you commit to anything and point you at the nearest authorised centre. It is a short conversation and it saves you a wasted trip.

Is an older Mac worth repairing?

More often than people assume. Batteries, drives, fans, screens and ports are all replaceable long after the warranty has gone, and a machine that is fine apart from one failed part does not deserve to be scrapped. The honest exceptions are logic board faults on old models where the part is scarce, and machines too old to run a macOS version that still gets security updates. We say so when that is the case.

Before you bring it in

  • Back up if it still starts. We tell you before doing anything that risks your data, but your own backup is the only real guarantee.
  • Sign out of Find My, or have your Apple ID ready. Activation Lock stops us confirming a repair actually worked.
  • Bring the charger if the fault has anything to do with power or charging.
  • Write down what happened. When it started, what changed, whether anything was spilled or dropped. It is often the fastest route to the fault.

How long it takes

Most Mac repairs are a day or two. The delay, when there is one, is almost always a part rather than the labour — Apple parts are more likely to need ordering in than PC ones, and we tell you that when we quote rather than after.
