Repair Rather Than Replace
A console with a broken HDMI port or a dead disc drive is not a write-off — it is one component away from working. Replacing the machine costs many times what fixing it does, and the faults we see most are the ones people assume are terminal.
Common questions
- No picture on the TV — is the console dead?
- Usually not. A bent or broken HDMI port is one of the most common faults we see, especially where a cable has been knocked while plugged in. It is a fine soldering job — the port is replaced and the console goes back to normal.
- Will I lose my games and saves?
- A port, fan or drive repair does not touch storage, so games and saves stay where they are. If the fault is the drive itself we tell you before we start what can and cannot be recovered.
- It is loud and keeps overheating.
- Almost always dust and dried thermal paste rather than a failing console. A strip, clean and repaste brings temperatures and noise back down — and left alone, overheating is what eventually kills the board.
- Does opening it void anything?
- If your console is still under manufacturer warranty, use that first — we will tell you so rather than take the work. Out of warranty, there is nothing left to void.
- Which consoles do you take?
- PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo, current and older generations. Controllers too — drift, dead sticks and charging ports are routine.

- Send the console only unless the fault involves them — leave cables, games and controllers at home. Less to pack, less to go missing.
- Tell us the fault first. Message us what it is doing and we will tell you whether it is worth sending before you pay for shipping.
- Pack it properly. The original box if you still have it, otherwise plenty of padding — most transit damage is a badly packed parcel rather than rough handling.
- Your games and saves stay put for port, fan and drive work. If the storage itself is the fault we tell you what can be recovered before starting.
