When the Network Goes Down
Most people call us about networking for one of two reasons: something has stopped working and the business has stopped with it, or the current setup was never designed for what it is now being asked to do. Those need different answers, so we start by working out which one you have.
Something has stopped working
Downtime is the cost, not the callout. We come out, find the actual fault rather than replacing hardware hopefully, and get you running again — then tell you what caused it, so it does not happen the same way next month. Fault-finding covers the whole path: the line into the building, the router, the switches, the cabling, and the Wi-Fi on top.
It was never built for this
A network that was fine for three people and a printer struggles when it is carrying card machines, cameras, cloud backups and a dozen phones. Common signs: Wi-Fi that drops in the same corner every time, speeds that fall off a cliff at the busiest hour, or a setup where one failure takes everything with it. Usually the fix is placement and cabling rather than a bigger router.
Common questions
- Can you work with the fibre I already have?
- Yes. We work with whatever line is already in — we are not tied to a provider, and we are not trying to move you to one.
- Do we have to close while you work?
- Rarely. Most cabling and switch work can be staged around trading hours, and we plan the disruptive parts with you rather than springing them.
- Will Wi-Fi reach the whole property?
- That is a design question, not a hardware one. Thick walls, outbuildings and long yards need access points in the right places — one powerful router in the office is the usual reason coverage fails.
- What happens during load-shedding?
- Only what you have planned for. If the router and switches are not on backup power, the network goes down with the grid even when the computers do not. Worth deciding deliberately rather than discovering it.
- Do you support it afterwards?
- Yes — remote support for most issues and on-site when it needs hands. We also take on networks somebody else installed.
