Crime on the South Coast is a reality. A properly installed CCTV system is one of the most effective deterrents — and the footage is invaluable if something does happen.
Why CCTV makes sense in 2026
- Insurance companies may reduce premiums with visible CCTV
- Modern cameras have AI detection (human vs animal vs vehicle)
- Remote viewing from your phone means you're always connected
- Cloud backup means footage is safe even if the DVR is stolen
- 4K cameras have come down enough to be worth considering on most sites
Camera types explained
Bullet cameras
Best for: outdoor perimeters, driveways, boundary walls Pros: Long-range night vision, weatherproof Cons: More visible (which can also be a pro as a deterrent)
Dome cameras
Best for: indoor areas, shop floors, offices Pros: Vandal-resistant, discreet Cons: Shorter night vision range
PTZ cameras
Best for: large properties, parking lots Pros: Pan, tilt, zoom — can follow movement Cons: More expensive, requires good network
